Terms of Use

Brainiacs AI teaches programming fundamentals through lessons, exercises with deterministic grading, and a knowledge-tracing model that estimates your mastery of each concept and decides when you advance. It is provided free of charge for learning and research purposes. It is deliberately designed not to hand out direct solutions to pending exercises: explanations are scaffolded and curriculum-based, because the goal is that you learn, not that you copy.

You must provide accurate information when registering and keep your password confidential; you are responsible for activity on your account. The platform is currently intended for learners aged 18 and over. One account per person: the mastery model assumes the attempt history belongs to a single learner, and sharing an account corrupts the estimates it makes about you.

You agree not to attempt to breach the platform's security, access other learners' data, overload the service, scrape its content in bulk, or use it to harass or impersonate anyone. The platform is a small, self-hosted educational system; conduct that would merely inconvenience a large commercial service can take this one offline for everyone.

The advance-versus-practice decisions the tutor makes are driven by a calibrated statistical model, and every decision can be inspected in your mastery journey. They are still probabilities, not certifications. A concept marked as mastered is the model's belief about your next answer, not a qualification, and the platform must not be represented as certifying skill to employers or institutions.

The platform is part of an evaluated research project conducted under ethics clearance from the ALU Senate's Research Ethics Committee (approval code M26-BSE-062). Your interaction logs may be analysed in pseudonymised, aggregate form as described in the Privacy Policy. Participation is voluntary: you may stop using the platform, or request deletion of your data, at any time and without any consequence.

The curriculum content, exercises, and software are the work of the project author and remain his property, with third-party components used under their respective open-source licences. Your answers remain yours; you grant the platform the right to store and process them for the purposes described in the Privacy Policy.

The platform is provided as is, without warranty of any kind. It is an academic system run on a single virtual machine; availability is not guaranteed, and the operator is not liable for losses arising from downtime, data loss, or reliance on the tutor's estimates, to the extent permitted by law.

Accounts that violate these terms may be suspended or removed. These terms may be updated as the project evolves; material changes will be announced on sign-in before they take effect, with the effective date above updated.

These terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of Rwanda, including Law No. 058/2021 relating to the protection of personal data and privacy.
